They don’t take up much of your time and will glamour all who gaze upon them. The mid green leaves are a well defined heart shape and grow to around 5cm across
This larger pot size will create instant impact.
This Heart Leaf Philodendron has a trailing, or veining habit that can be trained how you like. You can tip prune it to keep it low and bushy, allow it to trail from a basket/pot, train it up a post/frame or grow in a terrarium.
Philodendrons are good sized plants with a nice tropical vibe. They make terrific air purifiers and are easy care.
SIZE (HxW): 30-100cm x 20-50cm.
TIME FOR A DRINK: Water fairly freely spring/summer and less in winter, when the plants use less moisture. Allow the top of the few centimetres of potting mix to dry out before watering again. When you water do so deeply, allowing it to run out of the drainage holes and fully soak the root ball before popping it back in its spot. If you can, take it to the shower so you can clean the leaves at the same time.
Humidity isn’t vital, but they are more likely to thrive with it – you will have a happier plant with bigger leaves. You can add a pebble and water dish under the plant, combine it with other plants, or purchase a humidifier – this is a good investment if you are growing a few tropical plants and have air con/heating in your home.
I WILL SURVIVE: Bright, indirect light is ideal. You should be able to read during the day in their position in the room without turning on a light. If you only have artificial light, they will need about eight to ten hours a day – so they are good for the office.
Keep the leaves clean with a regular wipe – this will keep them looking good and growing well.
Use a diluted liquid fertiliser every other month spring/summer, just follow the directions on the pack.
Keep them clear of cold draughty positions or they will sulk.
Repot gradually in spring, they don’t mind being a bit pot bound and will not enjoy being thrust into a huge pot right away. You can train the stems up a post, rod, moss pole etc.
