With the summer entertaining season fast approaching, it is time to prepare the garden! What better way to start than with some delicious herbs that are ready and raring to grow. They will fill you meals with fragrance and flavour in no time. Offering you plenty of bragging rights with friends and family.
The herbs come pre potted in a 10cm pot, you can pot them on individually, or keep them together and pot them on to a 20-40cm decorative container. You could of course put them in the garden, there are no hard and fast rules!
The Pizza Herb Trio includes:
Rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis, a wonderfully fragrant, easy care, dry tolerant herb that has a huge variety of uses. The perfect complement to lamb or other meat dishes, anything with tomatoes and potatoes and a plethora of other vegetables too. You could even add it to the bath to sooth your sore muscles after a big day in the garden. The plant appreciates a sunny position and is happy in gardens or pots.
Oregano, Origanum vulgare grows 30-60cm x 30-60cm with a low spreading form. Any well drained soil with a sunny aspect is ideal. Sensational in pastas, pizzas or a variety of tomato foods, omelettes, salads or veggies. The leaves can be eaten fresh or dried. If you are drying them ideally cut them before blooming begins.
Italian Thyme, Thymus vulgaris is a low spreading herb that will trail nicely from a container or form a handsome, useful ground cover. The plant grows around 20-40cm high and wide. Best in a sunny spot with well drained soil. Little white flowers crown the growth in spring and summer. Delicious in a huge range of Italian dishes, as a stuffing, with meats, eggs, veggies (especially mushies) and more.
While they will be kept small initially with pinching/cutting for dishes, some may eventually outgrow their decorative container at which point you can pot them on individually, plant them out or increase the size of the pot.
