An unusual, Japanese cultivar with a blue blush of this well formed, tall growing cactus and a sculptural talking piece for the collection.
This rare variety of columnar cactus that can grow over 2m tall and begin branching, but primarily it is grown as a single stem and it’s slow growth allows for you to enjoy it for many, many years. It is easily kept to size by keeping it in a smaller pot and on the drier side, or encouraged to grow by potting on and watering/fertilising more regularly.
At maturity, Myrtillocactus ‘Fukurokuryuzinboku’ can branch at the top. Commonly known as blue booby cactus.
What could be more dry hardy and easier to care for than the Cactus? Cactus are a top plant for all ages and a great way to encourage kids to garden. All you need to grow Cactus successfully is well drained soil, a sunny position and the restraint not to water.

SIZE (HxW): 10-200cm x 5-10cm
I SEE THE LIGHT: Choose a brightly lit position out of the hot afternoon sun (which may burn the leaves or damage the roots in the pot, especially if grown in plastic) gradually it can take more and more sun. Indoors, place your pot Cactus by a sunny window – you get the best colour and form in bright light, in low light they can lose their shape and colour. If you are growing yours outdoors and live in a cold area it may be best bought indoors for winter.
I NEED A DRINK: Ensure your pot has drainage holes. Low water needs, water thoroughly then allow the soil to dry out before watering again. You are more likely to kill it with kindness than neglect. In pots, water the soil (not the foliage) as it begins to dry out. This will be roughly once a week in the warmer months and once every 3-4 weeks in winter during its dormancy (climate depending).
I WILL SURVIVE: In pots use a well drained potting mix specially formulated for succulents and cactus, drainage is vital. They aren’t huge fans of humidity, so it is best to ensure they have good air flow. Repot every three or four years to maintain vigour with a fresh mix, touching the foliage as little as possible as it can damage the soft coating.
You don’t need to fertilise them very often or much, a diluted liquid feed to quarter strength in spring and summer is all they need to thrive. High nitrogen fertilisers may cause soft growth and more green, less glaucus foliage.
