(52B) Star Fish Iris
Weird and wonderful flowers.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

These star fish shaped blooms are a sight to behold. The petals are cream to yellow and covered in a smattering of purple-brown blotches. The edge of the petals are the same purple brown and heavily ruffled. The anthers shine in the centre, a bright orange. The blooms open in succession on a multi branched stem. Blooms 5cm across, 2-3 stems per corm.
While they may be beautiful to they eye, they are a little offensive to the nose. The blooms have an unpleasant odor that they use to attract flies for pollination.
These exotic blooms are easy to grow. They are endemic to the African Cape and adore hot dry summers and wet winters. Plant into a moderately fertile, well drained soil in a full sun to semi shade position. They can be grown in pots, garden beds or rockeries. Half strength liquid fertiliser every other week in growth.
