Sweetly scented, white, pea like flowers appear in loose, pendant racemes in summer.
Robinia have attractive, bright green foliage that turns orange yellow in autumn. The seed pods are flat and turn from green to brown in autumn. The bark is brown grey and deeply fissured with age. Thorns grow along the trunk and can be snapped off.
Robinia is a vigorous tree that will settle in quickly. Easily grown in any well drained soil. Water only to establish, they become dry tolerant. Plant in an area sheltered from strong winds.
Robinia are commonly known as Black Locust or False Acacia. Tolerant of urban pollution.
