In autumn the mid green foliage turns bright yellow with the odd red leaf. Norway Maple is a lovely, large shade tree that is tolerant of poor soils. The Norway maple is quick to establish and grow. The well formed branches are attractive through winter. Botanically the Norway Maple is Acer platanoides. It is named platanoides because the leaves bear a resemblance to the Plane Tree (Platanus). The trunks of Norway Maples have rough brown and grey bark and grows 1.5m in diameter. The roots grow close to the surface.
