Hippeastrums grow well in garden soils and in pots, where they can be moved to centre stage when in bloom and rested behind the shed in winter.
Hippeastrum are large flowers that open on tall, straight stems. The trumpet blooms last well in the garden and also cut for indoor displays.
Hippeastrum grow best in humus rich, moist, well drained soils. Though well drained is the most important factor. Hippeastrum grow Australia wide. Keep plants protected from slugs and snails. Keep Hippeastrum moist in growth and relatively dry over winter.
Hippeastrum are semi evergreen and will go dormant in cool climates.
Grow Hippeastrum in pots or gardens. Pots can be bought indoors to enjoy when in flower.
