Russell Lupins are a grandiose highlight in any summer garden. Their sweetly fragranced flowers perform for weeks on end. These single colour varieties are rarely seen. Snap them up now so you can coordinate colour in your summer beds.
Russell Lupins grow best in full sun and will naturalise easily. Russell Lupins produce an extraordinary colour display and are a strong growing variety. The plants will grow to form generous clumps.
Grow Russell Lupins in humus rich, well drained soil. It is said Lupins add nitrogen to the soil. They are able to do this because they draw their nitrogen from the air, rather than the soil. The nitrogen is converted from gas to organic form through bacteria in their root nodules. Once the plant has finished flowering the foliage and roots can be dug back into the soil or added to compost there the nitrogen can become usable organic matter.
Protect your Russell Lupins from snails and slugs.
