Aquilegia Winky Rose

Bounteous, rose red flowers open spring to summer. The Aquilegia ‘Winky Series’ has been selectively bred for upward facing flowers. Where the Aquilegias of old were shy, their heads hanging, the ‘Winky Series’ faces upward … winking at you! The flowers have shorter spurs and nice bright colour contrast.

The Aquilegia ‘Winky Series’ has uniform growth and plenty of flowers. It has won the prestigious Fleuroselect* seal of approval has vigorous, bushy growth and excellent mildew resistance.

The mid green, soft, fern like foliage makes a beautiful foil for other plants and they develop just in time to fill in for the fading spring flowers; the fresh foliage starts growing in early spring. The flowers of Aquilegia ‘Winky Series’ open on narrow, branched stems.

The flowers will last longer when planted in light shade but they will tolerate full sun. Aquilegia should be planted in moist, well drained humus rich soil. Aquilegia 'Winky Series' is suitable for growing in a lightly shaded border or morning sun. They look fantastic in massed plantings or large containers (the tend to be more compact in containers).

After the initial flowering has finished, cut the stems back to the basal foliage for future blooms. If you would like to increase your stock, leave the last flowers of the season to form seed heads for future generations of plants. Seedlings are unlikely to flower true to type as they hybridise easily. Keep good air flow around the plants to avoid powdery mildew and keep an eye out for aphids.
