A nice rounded rosette with a spiral leaf pattern that grows up to 50cm across. The foliage is almost stemless and hugs the ground. The leaves are bright green and have small hairs that create a soft fuzz. An excellent foliage plant for pots or rockeries.
The flower stem rises upwards from the centre of the rosette, towering like Jack’s beanstalk, it reaches up to 60cm tall. It has small green leaves and little yellow flowers. The Plate Plant takes three or more years to flower. It is monocarpic plant, which means it dies after flowering. But don’t despair. The flower stem will have ‘pups’ that can be rooted to form new plants. And you can also root the leaves.
Plant into sharply drained soil in a full sun to bright light position. Outdoors grow on rock walls or sloped rockeries where moisture won’t sit on the foliage. Indoors plant in cactus and succulent potting mix and grow in bright light. Ensure you protect them from snails.
