Mid to late summer, mature trees put on quite a show with masses of white to cream, pea like flowers in terminal racemes. Each flower is around 1.5cm long.
Following the flowers are yellow seed pods like a string of beads, these age to brown.
Japanese Pagoda Tree has dark green, glossy leaflets on 25cm pinnate stems. In autumn the leaves turn a buttery yellow.
A medium deciduous tree with bright green leaves. The young wood is olive green, aging to furrowed grey brown bark.
Japanese Pagoda Trees are very tolerant of heat. Grow in any well drained soil in a sunny position. They have good urban tolerance.
Japanese Pagoda Tree partly lives up to its name as it grows to form a large, rounded tree, however it is native to China. Another common name is Chinese Scholar Tree
