Spikes of azure or sky blue flowers open freely on upright stems. Long flowering from summer to autumn. Each flower is 1.5-2cm long.

Salvia azurea is a woody perennial with upright branches. The grey green, narrow leaves grow 5-10cm long and have a soft underside. They have a soft, earthy fragrance when brushed against or crushed.

Grow Salvias in a sunny location in well drained soil. These Salvias are dry tolerant once established and look wonderful in beds, borders or dry gardens. They have a vigorous growth and are easy care.
After the first flush, dead head spent flowers on Salvias to encourage re-bloom. A semi evergreen to herbaceous variety which should be pruned back hard in winter or early spring.
