A much loved, compact, early flowering grass that adds gorgeous texture and colour to the garden. It is easy growing with beautiful green and cream variegated foliage.
Calamagrostis ‘Overdam’ makes a worthy specimen as it adds simple vertical interest and works well in gardens or pots.
The new leaves have a touch of yellow before gently fading to cream. The foliage will overwinter and we recommend cutting back in early spring to make way for the fresh leaves. It grows to around 50cm and the flowers are double that.
The tall, purple pink plumes fade to straw and can remain standing through winter. You could even cut them for arrangements. You get the best blooms in a full sun position.
Plant Calamagrostis ‘Overdam’ in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. A full sun to semi shade position is ideal. Water to establish, it takes plant roots around four weeks to penetrate the surrounding soil and they need regular watering until then. They are dry tolerant once established.
