Astilbe Willie Buchanan
Compact colour for shade.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.
Fabulous, deep green foliage with a bronze blush. The blooms are creamy white with small red stamens, so the overall effect is a pink haze. Astilbe 'Willie Buchanan' is an excellent dwarf Astilbe.
The flowers of Astilbe 'Willie Buchanan' can be picked for vases and they will last and last.
Astilbe will grow to form nice clumps of handsome, fern like, dark green foliage. They look wonderful as part of a woodland garden or shady border. If you leave the flowers on the bush, they will turn a nice shade of bronze; you can either remove them or leave them on as they still have autumn/winter ornamental value.
Astilbe grows best in part shade to morning sun positions. The warmer your climate, the more shade they will need. Astilbe will grow in full shade but not flower their best. In sunny positions you will need to ensure they have adequate moisture, fact, in full sun they will grow in boggy soils. Ideally, plant into a humus rich soil. Water in your Astilbe and keep moist in active growth. Add a little mulch in summer to help retain moisture around the roots. If they dry out they tend to become straggly.
