Blood Lily Giant Form

Peach pink, brush like flowers to marvel at in January.

Some say big is better, and that may be the case here. The foliage is large, growing to 80cm long and 40cm wide! The leaves emerge when the flowers are in full bloom and have a soft, fuzz which disappears as they mature. It is mostly upright until it grows too large to support itself and has a graceful arch.

Plant and bulb enthusiasts will be enchanted with this species. A rare treat to add to their collection.

These bulbs are mature, having been fed and watered and loved for four years they are ready to grow and flower in your garden.
The scientific name, Haemanthus comes from the Greek haima for blood and athos for flower. At one time it was believed that consuming this plant would stop bleeding. Which lays the foundation for the common name of the red form, 'Blood Lily'. We don`t recommend using this plant for the above reason as it is poisonous and will only give you a stomach upset if you eat it. Other common names are Paintbrush Lily, Shaving Brush Lily

Grow Blood Lilies in pots or the garden. They like a bright light or dappled shade position in a well drained soil. Basically anywhere the common Clivea grows, these guys will flourish.

If planted in pots, Blood Lilies are happy to stay there until they are completely overcrowded. They are more than comfortable in a pot-bound state.
