Bright lolly pink flowers all summer long.
Inca Peruvian Lilies, or Alstroemerias are valuable garden plants for many reasons; they have a long flowering period, last well when picked, are easily cared for and become dry tolerant once established. That ticks a lot of boxes!
Inca Peruvian Lilies have harder stems and leaves, they are more disease resistant, compact and well branched. They cope well to -7C and don't mind the heat. Their compact growth means they are suitable for large pots and as part of borders.
Inca Peruvian Lilies come in a vibrant range of colours. The flowers begin blooming in spring and last right through to autumn. The flowers of Peruvian Lilies can be picked for indoor arrangements and will last well. When you pick the stems it is best to twist then pluck them from the base to encourage more growth. We also advise this method when pruning spent flowers and foliage. Each Peruvian Lilies flower measures around 5cm across.
Inca Peruvian Lilies are fabulous and compact, they look wonderful in beds and borders and are easily grown in pots.
When growing Inca Peruvian Lilies it is important to ensure they are fertilised well. They grow quickly and flower profusely so need to be well fed. We recommend a slow release fertiliser in winter and spring or a liquid fertiliser on a regular basis.
Water Inca Peruvian Lilies in well then we recommend keeping moist during active growth, they will flower better when kept moist. As they establish they become drought tolerant, they have a fleshy root system that keeps a reserve of moisture. Ensure you plant Peruvian Lilies in well drained soil, humus rich is ideal.
Mulch Inca Peruvian Lilies in spring to protect the root system and help retain moisture.
In the language of flowers the Alstroemerias signify friendship and devotion.
