The world needs more Campanulas and this one is no exception. With so many to choose from, Campanula takesimana ‘Alba’ stands out because it has prolific, big flowers throughout summer, on strong, red, 60cm stems. The lovely blooms are antique white with fine, mahogany spots and are suitable for picking.
As the flowers wane, cut the stems right back, add some fertiliser and watering and you should have a second flush in a few weeks. A cottage garden sweet heart, Campanula takesimana ‘Alba’ also combines well with roses.
Plant Campanula takesimana ‘Alba’ in a sunny spot in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. It will slowly spread with rhizomes to form a decent clump. It is a good idea to protect your plants from slugs and snails.
Campanulas are commonly known as Bellflowers. Campanula is Latin for little bell. Campanula takesimana is commonly known as Korean Bellflower.
