Large, deep crimson red petals surround a cluster of golden stamen. Peony ‘Early Scout’ has narrow, cut leaf foliage and is nice and compact. It is a prolific variety and is the recipient of the esteemed American Peony Society Gold Medal.
This robust plant has no need for staking and will begin to bloom a few weeks before any other peony, this means the flowers usually open before the thread of heat and will thus last longer. The foliage remains handsome long after the blooms have departed.
The exotic flowers of Peony Roses have been cherished since the 5th century and during their long and illustrious history, Peonies have been the flower favoured by Emperors and Gods. Fortunately, they are now accessible to the common gardener.
Peonies are vigorous, long lasting garden plants with opulent blooms that make wonderful cut flowers.
Why not spoil yourself and enjoy an abundant spring to summer display of intoxicating loveliness. Peonies look exotic and temperamental and yet they are remarkably hardy and grow well in cool to temperate Australian gardens.
You may have to be patient for at least a year before you can enjoy the flowers of Peony Roses, they resent having their roots disturbed so flowering is delayed, but the wait will be justified for many years to come as they are extremely long lived.
Peony Roses need cold winters (3-5C at least) for best flowers. Peony roses are heavy feeders, so you need to fertilise them regularly. They also like lime, and lot’s of it, so be sure to indulge them.
