Phlox 'Blue Evening' is an old fashioned favourite. The clusters of mauve blue blooms become more blue in the afternoon and evening light. They have a gorgeous, sweet fragrance.
The new leaves of Phlox 'Blue Evening' have a purple flush. They grow along the stems, maturing mid to dark green.

Phlox 'Blue Evening' is dazzling in borders and beds, rockeries or containers, and brilliant with silver foliage plants. They look their best when planted en masse. The blooms last well as cut flowers.

Plant Phlox 'Blue Evening' in moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well drained soil. Choose a position that is sheltered from the hot afternoon sun. Water to establish and keep moist in active growth.

Phlox grow best in areas with cold winters. In temperate zones make sure you keep the moisture up when they are in active growth. Phlox begin to die back in autumn, cut them to the ground to tidy. Plant Phlox 'Blue Evening' where it will have good air flow as powdery mildew can become a problem.

Dig and divide every three or four years to keep them vital. They will settle in and gradually multiply. They are good plants to make friends with because these cuttings can be shared.

Botanically, Phlox translates to; 'brightly coloured blooms' and that is definitely a good descriptor for these prolific flowers. Phlox originates in the woodlands of NE North America.
