Brazilian Edelweiss makes a fabulous house plant and is easy to grow. The fuzzy foliage sprouts in spring and is joined by bright orange-red tubular blooms. When the blooms finish the foliage remains and grows larger before dying back for winter dormancy.
Grow with the caudex style tuber above the soil. When in growth it reminds us of a tropical island with a palm tree in the centre. The tuber will grow up to 20cm across and last for 20 or more years.
Plant into a good quality potting mix. Water to establish the only if rainfall is low. Add a diluted, potash fertiliser every other week in growth.
