Dwarf Alstroemerias or Princess Lilies are valuable garden plants for many reasons; they have a long flowering period, last well when picked, are easily cared for and become dry tolerant once established. That ticks a lot of boxes.

Dwarf Alstroemerias come in a vibrant range of colours. The flowers begin blooming in spring and last right through to autumn. The flowers of Dwarf Alstroemerias can be picked for indoor arrangements and will last well. When you pick the stems it is best to twist then pluck them from the base to encourage more growth. We also advise this method when pruning spent flowers and foliage. Each Dwarf Alstroemeria flower measures around 5cm across.

Dwarf Alstroemerias are fabulous and compact, they look wonderful in beds and borders and are easily grown in pots.

When growing Dwarf Alstroemeria it is important to ensure they are fertilised well. They grow quickly and flower profusely so need to be well fed. We recommend a slow release fertiliser in winter and spring or a liquid fertiliser on a regular basis.

Water Dwarf Alstroemeria in well then we recommend keeping moist during active growth, they will flower better when kept moist. As they establish they become drought tolerant, they have a fleshy root system that keeps a reserve of moisture. Ensure you plant Dwarf Alstroemeria in well drained soil, humus rich is ideal.

Mulch Dwarf Alstroemeria in spring to protect the root system and help retain moisture.

In the language of flowers the Alstroemerias signify friendship and devotion.
