Cornus ‘Siberica’ is an RHS award winner. It has stunning red stems in autumn and winter. The brightest stems are last seasons growth. As the weather warms the stems take on a more burgundy brown shade.
In spring and early summer the branches have clusters of little white blooms. As the flowers finished they are followed by small white ornamental berries (inedible).
The oval shaped leaves turn a rich burgundy with orange and red tones before falling.
Cornus ‘Siberica’ look best planted in clumps. Grows best in humus rich, moist, well drained soils. They aren’t too fussy but you will get better colour from the stems in these conditions. Getting at lest six hours of sun a day will also give better stem colour.
This plant is an old favourite, It was introduced to Europe from Siberia as early as 1741 and remains a darling in shrub beds and garden borders.
