A small, spreading shrub that is covered in white fringed flowers spring to summer. The blooms have a soft fragrance. The flower numbers increase as the plant establishes.
The leaves are deep green and glossy, growing to 20cm long.
Moderate growth rate, grows best in full sun to light shade. The best flowers will be got in full sun. The North American Fringe Tree grows best humus rich, well drained soil. An acid to neutral PH is preferred. You can choose to prune the lower branches to obtain a tree like habit, or leave them for a shrub effect.
The botanical name, Chionanthus is from the Latin; Chion for snow and Anthos for flower.
