Dianthus Sooty
Dark and sultry.
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.
Cottage chic in deep shades. The fragrant, deep, maroon to chocolate red flowers have a soot black blush. They open freely and are great for picking.
The foliage is a feature in itself, growing around 10cm long, the leaves are mid to deep green with a purple blush.
Dianthus 'Sooty' is easily grown in beds, borders or pots. Plant in full sun to light shade, in warmer climates it is a good idea to protect them from hot afternoon sun. Moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil is ideal.
Regular cutting of flowers promotes healthy growth and perennial propensities (usually a biennial it can be perennial with a little pruning). Cut back to half in autumn, after the flowering has finished, add some fertiliser and you should have a second round of blooms in no time. A biennial that will set viable seed.
