Wine red flowers with white splotches in the throat. You will have up to five months of flowers from these incredible, compact sub shrubs. Penstemon 'Port Wine' holds the prestigious RHS Award for Garden Merit. Dark green, narrow foliage forms along the upright stems.
Water to establish then only if rainfall is low. Penstemon 'Port Wine' is dry tolerant once established. Plant in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Drainage is important. Dead head regularly to encourage more flowers.
Protect these young tubestock plants from frost. Pot these Penstemon tubes on (put into bigger pots) until the threat of frost is over. They become more hardy as they establish. Then plant them out in the garden. Grow Penstemon in beds, border or containers.
