Jockey's Cap Yellow

Brilliant yellow flowers with a bright, patterned throat.

Jockey's Cap flowers are guaranteed to draw attention, and they are surprisingly easy to grow. Each bloom is around 7-8cm across. The flowers have three bright petals, often with a pretty, patterned throat.

Each bloom opens only a day, but you can expect a string of them from late spring into summer. The ribbed, sword like foliage rises up around the flower stems.

Plant Jockey's Cap in poor to humus rich soil, they aren't too fussy, but good drainage is the key. Choose a sunny spot that is sheltered from strong winds.

Tigridia is commonly known as Jockey's Cap, Tiger Flower, Peacock Flower and Mexican Shell Flower.

Jockey's Cap is native to Mexico, it has been in cultivation for over two hundred years. The Aztecs used the bulb as a food source, it was known as cacomitl and we have been told, it tastes a little bit like sweet potato. We do not recommend you eat these bulbs.
