The flowers have a yellow base blending to white with red markings. A gorgeous combination. When the sun is over head, the flowers open fully, so they are almost flat. A gorgeous early season bloom.
The green foliage has a handsome purple variegation. Water Lily Tulip blooms open on shorter stems to 20cm. Known as Waterlily Tulips because the flowers have similar characteristics.

Species Tulips have a more relaxed or whimsical feel than the common hybridized varieties. They are just as easy to grow. If planted in a well drained soil in a spot that does not get too hot over summer then the bulbs can be left in the ground for many years.

Species Tulips are ideal for rock gardens, lawn plantings, pots or towards the front of a border.
