The eye catching flowers grow in racemes up to 30cm along the straight flower stems (to 60cm). Each bright blue floret is up to 5cm across.
The sword shaped leaves of Camassia `Blue Melody grow 20-60cm long.
Camassia `Blue Melody` multiplies well.
Plant Camassia `Blue Melody` in humus rich, moist, well drained soil. They thrive in a full sun to semi shade location. Water in well and keep moist in active growth - though it is one of the most dry tolerant of the Camassia clan. It is native to damp meadow areas of North America, there the bulbs were cooked and eaten by the Native Americans, the taste is similar to chestnuts.
Camassia `Blue Melody` is suitable for borders, rockeries, by streams or ponds, bog gardens and grass or meadow planting. he bulbs are best left to naturalise and should only be lifted as they become overcrowded.
Camassia quamash was previously known as Camassia esculenta. It is commonly known as Wild Hyacinth, Small Camas or Quamash.
