Gorgeous, golden petals radiate around the gold to brown disc. The splashes and streaks of red add a little something special the flowers. The butterflies and bees love this one. Early flowering and definitely garden worthy. Blooms to 7cm.
In beds and borders, plant Helenium ‘Zimbelstern’ in groups for an amazing show for three seasons. They offer sensational colour from late summer to autumn. Then, once the petals fall, the spent flower cones will remain ornamental through winter.
Plant Helenium in a sunny spot in humus rich, well drained soil. In summer, remove spent flower heads to encourage more blooms. The flowers tend to grow larger in areas where there are cool nights.
Good companions for Helenium include Crocosmia, Dahlias such as 'Bishop of Llandaff', red Heleniums or Alstroemerias. In ideal conditions, the colony will gradually increase year after year.
