This big impact plant is ideal for adding architectural interest, height and a bit of wow to the garden. Magnificent Elecampe is quick to establish and grow, it will form a large, upright clump of lush, heart shaped foliage. Come summer it is topped with a heavy covering of narrow petal, daisy like flowers. The blooms open in corymbs of up to 20 and each little ray of sunshine stretches to around 15cm across.
The upstanding stems have handsome purple streaking and the leaves grow alternately along them. Each leaf is around 25cm long and has a woolly underside.
With its impressive size, this magnificent and rare plant could be grown by a pond, at the back of a border or as a specimen. Bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects adore this plant too.
Plant Inula magnifica in moderately fertile to humus rich soil. It is happy in both well drained or boggy conditions such as beside a pond. It may require staking depending on conditions. Becomes dormant in winter, simply cut back senescent foliage to tidy.
