A much loved heritage variety with a memorable perfume. The single purple flowers are perfect for posies. This plant makes a nice little ground cover and is happy in damp shade.
Try them in tough to fill spots such as along fence lines, under trees, between pathways or under eaves.
Parma Violet blooms begin in late autumn and can last right through winter and into spring. Dead head the flowers regularly to help sustain the plant.
Plant Parma Violets in a part shade position in humus rich, moist, well drained soil. It will tolerate more sun but you have to keep the moisture up to it. It will not tolerate humidity. Protect your plants from slugs and snails, especially whilst young. It is suitable for growing in containers and hanging baskets. They mingle beautifully with Hellebores, Hostas and the like.
Fertilise in late summer or autumn to keep it blooming at its best.
Parma Violets foliage is mid to bright green, heart shaped foliage that forms neat, evergreen clumps. They are also known as Sweet Violets, Sweet Pansies, Wood Violets, Sweet Viola, Florists Violet, Garden Violet and English Violets
