The tall flower stems support large plumes of soft blue flowers. Each plume is made up of around 100 star shaped flowers. Each of these flowers is around 1.5cm across and has a nice honey fragrance. The flower show will last around a month.
The large bulb of Blue Squill is planted so the neck is exposed. The basal foliage forms at the time of flowering. The leaves are broad, upright and lance like and grey green, usually with a purple lustre. The foliage is around 20cm with the flower and extends up to 60cm as the flower fades.
Blue Squill bulbs may take a season or so to settle in before flowering well. Plant in rockeries, pots or beds or border in clumps or swathes. The bulbs grow during summer and will require water to flower at their best. They remain dormant in winter.
