Winter Rose HGC Pink Frost
This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.
Wine red buds form on the end of matching stems. The buds unfurl to pretty pink blooms that age to rose pink. Offering you a whole gamut of colour in a season. As the name sort of suggests, the colour of the flowers are influenced by temperature. So the colder the weather, the darker pink the blooms will be.
The dark green leaves have a silver sheen and open on red stems.
Now, there are Winter Roses and there are Winter Roses, and what sets HGC ‘Cinnamon Snow’ apart from the rest is the stand (up and) out flowers that open very early in the season. Winter Rose HGC ‘Cinnamon Snow’ has been propagated vegetatively so you can be guaranteed of variety quality and consistency as each plant is genetically equal.
What does HGC stand for you ask, it is the ‘Hellebore Gold Collection’, it was bred by Winter Rose legend, Josef Hueger in Germany.
The Winter Rose Gold Collection are real show offs. Most Winter Rose flowers open amongst the leaves and can be somewhat hidden. Not these ones, the blooms open above the leaves. The flowers are outward to upward facing. The blooms last months and are very proud, being more upward and outward facing than many of the traditional, shy varieties that hang their heads. The Gold Collection also boasts uniform and compact growth.
Winter Roses are suitable for both container and garden planting.
Winter Roses have a long lasting floral display, from winter to spring. They are ideal for filling the shady spots in your garden. They have handsome, evergreen foliage and pretty blooms.
Winter Roses, or Hellebores are durable and versatile in the garden. They grow best beneath deciduous trees, in filtered light or part shade (they don't tend to flower as well in heavy shade). You can also plant Winter Rose in beds sheltered from hot afternoon sun or in pots. If you grow them in containers they will need a bit of extra care as their water and nutrients are limited.
Try picking and floating the blooms of Winter Rose in a shallow glass dish for a sophisticated centre piece that will bring colour inside for the winter months. The stems can also be picked for vases. Dip them in boiling water after picking to prolong their life.
