The leaves are a real feature, they grow up to 35cm long in a bright green. London Plane is a large tree, ideal for street plantings, parks and large gardens. Their bark is a handsome feature with deep fissures in shades of brown, grey and cream. In spring, inconspicuous flowers bloom on the London Plane tree. These are followed by clusters (of up to 6) round ‘fruits’ that dangle from the stems into winter. Plant London Plane Trees in a full sun to light shade position. Plant away from structures and pipes as roots can cause damage. A vigorous tree. Well drained, deep soil is required. London Plane Tree is also known as a Sycamore tree.
