Brunsvigia flowers on thick stalks of 45cm-60cm tall bearing a full head, up to 90cm across of coral red flowers, each about 6cm across. A true spectacle to behold.

After the autumn blooms fade the pedicels elongate with the ripening seeds. The leaves emerge in winter.

The leave are blue green, thick and strappy. There are up to 20 leaves, the more established the bulbs, the more leaves.

Named after Napoleon's empress, this is a bulb for the dedicated gardener who loves anticipation. Freshly planted bulbs can take up to 12 years to settle down before they flower. Once established, though, they should flower year after year. And in ideal conditions they will be much quicker than 12 years.

Brunsvigia grows to a large bulb, long lived bulb. Old bulbs have been known to exceed 25cm across. Plant in a warm spot with sharply soil, winter sun is a must.

Summer dormant it should remain relatively dry at this time.
