Petals the colour of desert sands at dawn. Otherwise described as salmon to apricot with hints of orange and pink.
Hippeastrum are extroverts; their large, eye catching flowers that open on tall, straight stems. The trumpet blooms last well in the garden and also cut for indoor displays.
Hippeastrums grow well in garden soils and in pots. In pots, they can be moved to centre stage when in bloom and rested, hidden behind the shed in winter.
Hippeastrum grow best in humus rich, moist, well drained soils. Though well drained is the most important factor. Hippeastrum grow Australia wide. Keep plants protected from slugs and snails. Keep Hippeastrum moist in growth and relatively dry over winter.
Hippeastrum are semi evergreen and will go dormant in cool climates.
