A dwarf, upright, evergreen Bamboo with handsome foliage. Pygmy Bamboo is quick to establish and looks gorgeous in containers, or as a ground cover (you can even trim the stems with a mower), as a small hedge or even a Bonsai.
You can plant Pygmy Bamboo into the garden, but keep in mind it is a running variety. You can easily contain it with a plastic root barrier. If their wandering doesn't bother you, you can leave them to ramble through your garden, they are good for securing eroding soil.
Grow Pygmy Bamboo in moderately fertile to humus rich, well drained soil. Once planted they tend to look after themselves, becoming dry tolerant once established. This Bamboo originates in the woodlands of China and Japan.
