Pulmonaria 'Blue Ensign' has lots of pretty, violet blue flowers. It is the darkest blue of the all the Pulmonarias. The blooms open in groups over the mid to dark green foliage.
The flowers open from late winter and last for weeks on end. The more time the plants have had to establish, the earlier the flowers will open and the longer they will last.
Pulmonaria 'Blue Ensign' grows best in bright light or morning sun where the foliage will gradually form a thick mat. A woodland plant that appreciates humus rich, moist, well drained soil. A good, low growing border pant or ground cover.
In mild climates Pulmonaria 'Blue Ensign' will remain evergreen, in cool climates, the foliage will brown and should be removed to keep tidy.
Pulmonaria are commonly known by many names, including Lungwort, Joseph and Mary, Soldiers and Sailors and Jerusalem Cowslip.
