In summer the long, wiry, branched stems of deep red flower spikes. The form is extremely ornamental and architectural.
The handsome, fine foliage of Sanguisorba 'Red Thunder' is soft green with a blue blush and opens low on the stem. The leaves, when crushed smell of cucumber. Compact growth.
Plant Sanguisorba 'Red Thunder' in borders or beds, when combined with tall grasses, it is stunning, it is one of the famous Piet Oudolff's favourite plants. It looks especially good with yellow tinged foliage.
Plant Sanguisorba 'Red Thunder' in a cottage garden for late season colour. Grow in full sun to semi shade in moderately fertile, to humus rich, well drained soil. Water to establish and keep moist in active growth. Protect new growth from slugs and snails.
