Clematis Rooguchi

Clematis 'Rooguchi' has pendant, bell shaped blooms in a rich, purple hue. The recurved petals add a touch of style and flare to this vigorous climber. Blooms are 4.5-5cm across and open from late spring to autumn.

Clematis 'Rooguchi' is pruning group 3 and you will need to train its tendrils by hand, which is easy to do and gives you complete control over where they should go. Dormant in winter. Ensure good air flow around this plant to avoid powdery mildew.

Plant your clematis so their 'head' is in the sun and their 'feet' are in the shade. In other words they like their root zone to be cool and protected, this can be done with mulch and or by using other plants to shield the roots from the sun. The plant should be allowed to grow up into a sunny position.

Clematis can be trained to grow on a trellis, fence, through trees and shrubs, along pergolas or any where you like! They are so versatile, you can even use them as a ground cover.

Clematis grow well where Roses grow well. They are also excellent in combination. You can use similar colours for a lovely blend or create some drama with contrasting shades. Clematis will intermingle well with many plants.

Clematis are fast growing and produce lots of flowers. So to perform at their best they should be fertilised well. Use a Rose Fertiliser every three months or so.

Grow Clematis in humus rich, moist, well drained soil. They need good drainage or the roots will rot. Plant so they will receive around six hours sun a day and shield from the hot afternoon rays. You can also grow Clematis in pots.

Dead head after the first flush of flowers to encourage rebloom. The second lot of flowers can remain on the stems as the seed heads are also decorative.
