An early Crocus with a lovely, silver shimmer to the blooms. The golden anthers offset the petals perfectly. An excellent choice for naturalising.

Crocus tommasinianus are commonly known as Woodland Crocus, and, as this name suggests are more tolerant of shade than most Crocus varieties.

Species Crocus grow best in Cool to Mediterranean climates where they look fantastic in rockeries, beds and pots. Plant in a winter sun spot with drained soil. Beneath a deciduous tree is ideal.

Species Crocus bulbs don’t need to be lifted every year, so you can allow them to naturalise and only need to dig and divide them after four or five years if flowering wanes because they are overcrowded. Leaving them in the ground will also mean you will be greeted with your blooms a little earlier in the season.

It is a good idea to protect the new growth from slugs and snails. Fertilise Species Crocus annually in winter or early spring as they bloom.
