The tulip bulb’s spectacular spring show has made this bulb popular for hundreds of years. Tulips were revered as the symbol of the Royal Court of Turkey as early as the 1500’s. Arriving in the Netherlands in the early 1600’s the tulip bulb turned heads wherever they went. In 1637 a single bulb of the Tulip ‘Semper Augustus’ was more valuable than the most expensive house in Amsterdam. Today the tulip still turn heads and they are loved all over the world – though thankfully the bulbs are much more affordable for the average gardener.
